To celebrate LISTEN’s new website we’re interviewing a bunch of local Australian artists to profile them on the site. Introducing No Stars:
How would you best describe your music?
sad and hopeful bedroom pop
How did your band / musical project start?
gemma started writing music when she was 14, and would record her tiny songs in the bathroom cos of the nice reverb. she’s been writing and (mostly!) recording her own (still mostly tiny) songs since then. sometimes no stars is just gemma, sometimes it’s gemma and her friends.
What has been the biggest highlight as a band?
the best part has been all the fun shows no stars has played where gemma has enlisted friends to help her. part of the idea for no stars is that, while some of the same songs might be performed across shows, they can change and morph and bend and be reinterpreted depending on who’s involved in that particular show. seeing the songs have many lives has been satisfying and beautiful.
Who are your biggest influences musically right now?
florist; frankie cosmos; alvvays; phil elverum (always)
Where can people find your music?
